Forest Stewardship Council

Monadnock Papers Monadnock's record of environmental stewardship is without rival in the industry. All printing and packaging papers are manufactured carbon neutral and with 100% renewable electric energy.

GreenPrint Technologies has paper-saving software which eliminates waste before printing (saving paper, ink and reducing greenhouse gasses) by analyzing each page of every document sent to the printer and looking for typical waste characteristics (e.g. pages with just a URL, banner ad, logo or legal jargon) and then highlighting and removing them before they are printed. GreenPrint donates to its environmental partners and organizations the company feels are doing important work with healthcare in the developing world.

Terminology
Cradle-To-Cradle – environmentally intelligent design than eliminates the concept of waste. Constructed of safe and healthy materials; design for material reutilization, such as recycling or composting; the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency; efficient use of water, and maximum water quality associated with production; and instituting strategies for social responsibility. Allows total dissassembly.
Nonwood – virgin fiber that is derived from non-forest sources, usually annual farm crops or straw from annual farm crops such as rye, wheat or corn.
Tree Free – a general term to signify pulp/paper that is made without ANY cutting down of trees, directly or indirectly.
Forest Stewardship Council Certification (FSC) – The strictest of the forest harvesting certification processes. Created in the 1990s by environmental and social groups, foresters and landowners to provide consumers with a rigorous, independent system for identifying products from ecologically, socially, and economically well-managed forests.Bleaching
Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF)Processed without the most environmentally threatening whitener of all time: chlorine gas (pure chlorine). Chlorine compounds such as chlorine dioxide or sodium hypochlorite (common household bleach) are likely used. These chlorine compounds are much, much more stable than pure chlorine.
Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) No chlorine compounds are used in the production of this pulp & paper. If the paper is white yet TCF it may have been whitened with Hydrogen Peroxide, Ozone or biologically.
Process(ed) Chlorine Free Paper( PCF) Applies to post-consumer recycled content only as it means that no chorine (or compounds) were used "this time around" but there may be traces of chlorine present because of earlier processes.
